Nobody knows what care will cost.

Not the patient, not the doctor, not even after the visit.

Most people reading this have lived some version of this moment.

So you wait. Maybe you put off the appointment. Maybe you skip the follow-up. Maybe you get the care and spend weeks bracing for a bill you can’t predict.

That not-knowing is its own kind of harm. It changes what people do about their own health.

We started Sandy to fix that.

Almost everyone who built or backed Sandy has their own version of that moment. A bill that made no sense. A parent lost in an appeals process. Care delayed because nobody could answer a simple question about money. That shared frustration is why this newsletter exists. We’ll send a note like this every couple of weeks to keep it in view.

The Fix Starts Upstream

Here’s what isn’t obvious from the waiting room: the patient gets blindsided because the practice is flying blind too.

The clinic often can’t see what a visit will cost you. What your insurance will actually pay. Whether the care they just delivered will be paid for at all.

The same uncertainty that leaves you guessing leaves them guessing.

And most clinics don’t have room for guessing. They run on thin margins. Every denied claim, every write-off, every bill that goes unpaid comes straight out of their ability to keep the doors open and keep seeing patients.

There are plenty of tools that make clinic work faster. But if the clinic still does not know what it should get paid, if the patient still does not know what they may owe, and if issues only show up weeks later, then we are just shifting the uncertainty around.

To fix the patient’s experience, you have to fix the practice’s visibility first. That’s the insight Sandy is built on. Give the practice a clear, real-time picture of the money, and the patient stops getting surprised.

That’s what we mean when we call Sandy the financial layer for healthcare. Before care happens, it tells the practice what coverage looks like and what you’ll owe. During the visit, it captures what actually happened. Afterward, it makes sure the care that was delivered is the care that gets billed.

No surprises weeks later. For the practice or the patient.

Where We’re Headed

We’re building toward a future where a clinic’s financial health is as clear as a patient’s vitals, and where nobody has to make a decision about their own care in the dark. We’d rather build that in the open, with people who understand why it matters. That’s you.

Next issue, we’ll talk about our Sandy platform. We’ll show you how a patient, through Sandy, knows what their visit will cost before it happens, and how clinics can count on getting paid for the care they give.

Until then, this is a conversation, not a broadcast. If any of this resonates, or you’ve lived your own version of that waiting-room moment, just reply. We read everything.

We’re glad you’re here.
